Make a special effect video of a journey or navigation or a sped up time lapse series.
Hyperlapse is a tool created by Instagram that changes time! Use the app to record a video sequence; when saved it speeds up the video and selectively drops frames to create a rapid film sequence. See these examples:
The roads that run through Yellowstone National Park are often roadblocked with roaming bison and other wandering wildlife. This is what my morning commute looks like while on assignment for National Geographic Magazine in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. This time-lapse video was created by David Guttenfelder @dguttenfelder for @natgeo with a pre-release version of @Instagram's new app, Hyperlapse. #natgeoparks #hyperlapse10x
In this challenge, you can create your own rapid paced video.
- Download the Hyperlapse app if you do not already have it.
- You will have to use or create a new Instagram account.
- Plan a subject. You can either travel about to record a walking path journey, or set the camera in one place and place, move, and remove objects in front to create a stop motion video.
- When you save in Hyperlapse, use the slider to set the speed.
You can publish a 15 second final video directly to Instagram. However, the app saves a longer video to your iPad Camera Roll (under “Videos”). You can publish a longer Hyperlapse to YouTube (as the example for this studio did) if you have the YouTube app installed
